Here you’ll find wine recommendations, introductions to wine regions around the world, travel guides, recipes, home projects and more.
Pippin Hill is one of my favorite wine tasting locations that I’ve been to in Virginia. It’s owned by the Easton Porter Group, who has multiple event spaces, restaurants, and an accomplished event planning team. Here we did a classic tasting of 5 different wines. Our favorite was the Zero White, which tastes very close to a sauvignon blanc, having notes of citrus and stone fruits. We ended up getting a bottle and sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful mountain views. We also walked around the property and learned about their event space. They were in the process of setting up for a wedding, with a ceremony outside and reception inside of the beautiful modern barn space.
This is another great location that holds many events, another wedding was happening the same day! Here we did another tasting. This one was primary white wines, which is uncommon for a lot of tastings. There were quite a few sweet wines, which aren’t typically my favorite. However we did enjoy a lot of them and purchased a bottle of their refreshing Sauvignon Blanc to enjoy outside on the property.
I have been to this winery a couple of times now and love it each time! Different from the other wineries that are more up on hills, this one has a big stretch of flat land that they hold polo events on, but still has beautiful mountain views in the distance. They are mostly known for their Crosé. It’s similar to a rosé but named after the region in which it is produced, Crozet, VA.
The next day, we went to Early Mountain, which is in a different direction outside the city of Charlottesville. We did a Sunday brunch and had a wine flight to taste a few of their signature creations. The restaurant has a gorgeous patio with fire pits overlooking hills in the Virginia countryside. They are known mostly for their Foothills Red and Shenandoah Valley Cabernet Franc.
I hope you all enjoyed reading about some of the wineries I visited in Virginia! There are many more to explore and try, so I hope to do another blog post in the future on some of the other wineries that I have yet to visit. Cheers!
